The Cabo da Rama fort was built in the year 1679 by the Maratha Warrior King, Shivaji Maharaj. It is the biggest fort in Goa covering an area of 179600 sq. mts. IT was under the rule of the Kings of Sundem. The Portuguese conquered it in the year 1763.

There is a church inside the Fort served not only the Portuguese army but also the local people.

For 25 years between the period from 1932 to 1957 prisoners were kept in custody in cells within the Fort.

Cabo da Rama fort is situated 30 kilometers from Margao.
